Many people spend much of their life at work, interacting regularly with other staff. Due to forced proximity, tensions and difficulties may arise with other staff members sometimes leading to conflict. Furthermore, some jobs require much interaction with the public, which can also, at times, be draining. A person may feel underappreciated at work, leading them to become disengaged, or they might feel mistreated and bullied. There may be a poor balance between a person’s work and their private life: If a person is working too hard their mental health might suffer and they could risk burnout. Many of these workplace issues can cause a person to feel demotivated and potentially encourage other issues to develop such as anxiety and depression. Workplace dissatisfaction or distress may have associations with experiences further in the past, some of which may not be work related at all. Problems with finding a job and having a lack of money can also cause substantial anguish, or the person may have difficulties finding a career path in life. All of these issues will likely impact upon a person’s sense of self.
