I have counselled staff within the NHS and I have also counselled students at a university. This counselling work involved many different issues.
I studied and researched in the field of psychology for many years, which has aided my understanding of different clinical conditions and mental health as well as child development and attachment, forensic psychology, behavioral learning, health psychology, social behavior, neuroscience, and neurology.
I have been a listener for a national suicide helpline, listening compassionately to support callers experiencing a wide array of distressing situations.
I have worked with a charity aiding people with brain injuries such as stroke or physical trauma. Negative effects upon language production, memory retention, and behavior disinhibition were most common and my work was aided by my knowledge of the workings of the brain.
I volunteered on the wards of my local hospital: For this role I served food and drink to patients with close regard to their physical condition (for example nil by mouth, diabetes, fluids only) while providing conversation and emotional support.
I have received training in:
Trauma-informed counselling
autism
dementia
eating disorders
epilepsy
conflict resolution
motivational interviewing
mental health first aid
adult safeguarding
the mental capacity act
